A local branch of ACORN - or Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - wants to see changes to the ODSP and Ontario Works.
As Kathleen Fortin of ACORN explains, ODSP and OW recipients have to claim property and other assets and if their income is too high, it is clawed back.
Fortin claims that if the income allowance was increased, thousands of people could be raised out of poverty without the government having to raise the budget.
The group plans to take their petition to the Ontario legislature.
