ACORN is an independent organization that does not rely on funding from government, big banks or corporations. ACORN is structured as a community union, where low- and moderate-income earners who can afford it pitch in membership dues of $15 to $30 a month. This keeps members in control of the organization’s agenda, and makes real grassroots community organizing a reality.

As a non-profit organization that focuses on building power and capacity for low- and moderate-income families, we are always striving to be fully self-sufficient. We rely on individual donors to make ends meet where membership dues don’t go far enough. Funds go toward organizing resources and campaign initiatives, including booking rooms for monthly community meetings, renting buses to get members to rallies, purchasing materials for posters and campaign literature, office expenses like phone lines, photocopiers, internet, etc. Our small staff makes sure every dollar goes a long way.
